CARLOS BRISON 800M WINNER SETTING A PERSONAL BEST, SECURES CARIFTA QUALIFICATION AT JAMAICA COLLEGE PURE WATER MEET

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten – Sint Maarten’s rising athletics star, Carlos Brison, delivered an extraordinary performance at the Jamaica College Pure Water Meet on January 4th, 2025, winning the 800m race with a personal best time of 1:57.64. This milestone not only secured his victory but also exceeded the CARIFTA Games qualification standards for the 800m, underscoring his relentless pursuit of excellence.

Carlos, a former Dynamics Sporting Club athlete and an emerging star who proudly represents the
St. Maarten National Athletics Federation (SNAF), has consistently demonstrated his potential since
his breakout performance at the CARIFTA Games in Jamaica. His remarkable showing at that event
caught the attention of scouts from highly ranked Calabar High School, leading to his recruitment at
just 13 years old.

In September 2024, Carlos advanced his career by joining Jamaica College, a highly ranked school for
athletics, where he has continued to excel under one of the world’s most competitive systems.
During his first year at Jamaica College, Carlos made history as Champion Boy in the 1500m at the
ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championships and earned a bronze medal in the 800m,
competing against some of the region’s most talented young athletes.

This recent personal best in the 800m solidifies Carlos’s position as one of the Caribbean’s most
promising middle-distance runners. It also exemplifies the impact of SNAF’s mission to foster athletic
excellence and provide its athletes with opportunities to shine on the global stage.

“Carlos’s success is a reflection of his dedication, the support of his coaches, and the vision of
developing athletes who can compete on the world stage,” said the Vice-President of SNAF Abdul
Wattley. “He embodies what we aim to achieve through our programs—a commitment to excellence
and a drive to make Sint Maarten proud.”

Carlos’s triumph is not just a personal achievement but a proud moment for Sint Maarten, as he
continues to inspire the next generation of athletes. His journey is a testament to the importance of
nurturing local talent and supporting their growth as ambassadors for the nation.
